Always Safety Comes First as Priority for Preschoolers and Toddlers

12 august

Bright Start Academy O’Fallon knows that your child’s safety is your number one priority, and that’s just how it should be! Let’s face it, it’s a scary world we live in and you can’t be too careful, particularly when it comes to keeping your little one safe. That’s why when you’re choosing a day care center for your child, there’s more to think about it than just cost and location, curriculum and caregivers. The right center for you is a center where you feel comfortable dropping your child off, where you can breathe easily knowing that your child is safe and secure every moment of the day. Bright Start Academy O’Fallon MO knows how important your child’s safety is, that’s why in 2013 we invested over $100,000 in new and improved safety measures in our center. We’ve created a warm and secure environment where your child can grow and learn, with all the necessary safety measures in place to ensure your child’s safety every minute of the day.

The first thing you’ll notice about Bright Start Academy O’Fallon MO is that even our parking lot is as safe as we can make it! Our parking lot is set up so that traffic moves only one-way and cars are parked in a single file line to ensure that your child won’t have to dodge through other vehicles or maneuver around traffic coming from both directions. And that’s just what you can see! What’s not so obvious is that the entire center, inside and out, is being monitored by 16 cameras with night vision 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This means that the entire Bright Start Academy O’Fallon center is under constant surveillance with a closed caption monitoring system in the Director’s office. Add in our fully monitored burglar alarm and motion and door sensors and you can rest assured that we know who is on our property, as well as entering and exiting the building, at all times.

12 august1

That’s not where the exterior safety measures at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon MO stop, it’s just the beginning! The front door itself is equipped with a lockout pad requiring a PIN number, specific to each parent, to unlock the door and enter the center during normal business hours. Additionally, all of the exterior doors have automatic closers and locks so nothing can be inadvertently left open or unlocked. If any of the outside doors are opened, an alarm will sound alerting everyone in the room. This ensures that we have any little escape artists safely contained, while keeping any unauthorized guests out of the building. You can rest assured that at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon, we’ve taken every precaution to make sure that our facility is completely secure every minute of the day.

Once you step inside you’ll notice that we use an electronic system designed for safety, as well as to improve communication between our Bright Start Academy O’Fallon staff and your family. Childcare Sage is a new software program that enables us to share information about your child’s day and about our programming, as well as allowing you to share information about your child with us! This program utilizes full-color photos of you, your child and anyone else that you may authorize to pick up your child. This provides you, and us, just one more way that we can ensure your child is only going home with safe people that you have approved. And since Childcare Sage is not an internet-based program, you can rest assured that your child’s image and information stay only at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon MO and are not being shared with anyone outside of our center.

The world can be a scary place, but choosing child care for your little one shouldn’t leave you with any worries. That’s why, at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon, we are committed to bringing your child high-quality, fun and interactive child care in an environment you can feel good about. With the additional safety features, as well as on-going continuing education to our staff regarding both state guidelines and the policies and procedures of our center, we’ve worked hard to create the safest environment possible for the children in our care. Bright Start Academy O’Fallon MO really does combine safety, fun and learning to give your child the very best start!

Looking for best Infant Care at for your child in O’Fallon MO

infantcare1

At Bright Start Academy O’Fallon, we know that you want the best for your baby right from the start. After all, making the decision to place your child in the care of another is tough! No matter how much you thought you were ready or how much you thought you wouldn’t mind, it’s hard to do when the time comes. That’s why we offer an infant program that gives your baby everything they need, while putting your mind at ease! From the time your child comes into the world, they are soaking everything up like a sponge! They are learning how to control their muscles, how to communicate.

It seems like after you have your baby, the time just flies by!  One minute, you’re seeing their face for the very first time and the next; it’s already time to head back to work.  At first, the decision of who to leave your baby with seems like such an easy call.  After all, babies just need someone to feed them, change them, and give them a comfortable place to sleep, right?  Wrong!  Babies are constantly looking and learning.  From learning how to let you know when they need help, to rolling over, to babbling, to clapping their hands, there are constantly connections being made in their brain.  A babysitter isn’t enough.  When looking for quality infant care in O’Fallon, there’s more to helping your baby grow and develop than meets the eye!

infantcare2

In 12 short months, your baby goes from a helpless newborn to an active toddler.  That’s a huge leap!  In this one year, your baby will make the biggest changes of his life!  One of the most obvious areas of growth is motor development, learning to move and control those big muscle groups in their body.  Babies go from not even being able to roll themselves over, to being able to sit themselves up, pull to standing, and maybe even take some steps on their own!  As they grow, they want to explore their world, and they need a safe environment with lots of age-appropriate and visually appealing toys to encourage this movement.  Whether its pat mats for tummy time or things to push along, your baby needs to be surrounded by the right toys at the right stage, and your baby’s needs for these stimuli are constantly changing.  Staying on top of what your baby needs to get moving and grooving can help them learn how to control those big muscles so that they can make all those big, new movements!

Besides developing those big muscles and learning to move their bodies, at Bright Start Academy, babies are learning to do so many small muscle movements, too!  They are learning how to control their hands, bring their hands to their mouth, and even find their feet and nibble on those too!  They are learning how to grasp things in their hands, how to use a pincher grasp to pick things up, and how to move things from hand to hand.  All of these skills make their fingers stronger and their eye-hand coordination better, setting a strong foundation for manipulating and controlling objects such as holding utensils and grasping a pencil.  Holding and manipulating all those toys are actually building up the body to develop pre-writing skills!  That’s why it’s so important that infant care providers keep things interesting, appealing, and fun for your baby to develop those muscles!

infantcare3

But it’s not all moving their body around that’s happening with your baby.  Every day your baby is learning how to communicate in various ways.  By watching and hearing the people around them, they are learning how to build relationships and beginning language skills.  And they do all this learning by responding to their environment and by imitating the people they come in contact with!  Before babies can babble, they can cry…and that’s how they let you know they need you!  If you listen closely, you learn that babies have different cries to indicate different needs…they are letting you know what’s wrong! At Bright Start Academy, by taking care of their needs, such as feeding them when they’re hungry, changing them when they’re wet, etc., we are teaching your baby to trust us, and how to make trusting connections with others.  So when you’re not around, it’s important that your baby is surrounded by loving and attentive caregivers to ensure that they are being loved, nurtured and cared for, just like you would!

While it can be helpful to be able to distinguish your baby’s cries, it’s even more helpful (and exciting!) when they start to use our language!  To do this, it takes both environment and imitation.  When babies are first born, they can’t even control their eye movements.  They gain control of those muscles by learning how to focus on things that catch their attention and by following things that move across their field of vision.  And learning to hold that attention and focus with movement helps them to focus on your lips when you speak to them.  That is how your baby learns to move their lips and make sounds, the first building blocks for speech!  So by watching your mouth while you talk to them, your baby is learning how to talk!

infantcare4

Infant care can be easy to come by.  After all, who doesn’t love to snuggle a baby?  But quality infant care in O’Fallon is harder to find, when you realize how much your baby is learning and growing every single day.  From moving their body around to learning to talk, babies grow at an unbelievable fast rate, learning new skills day by day.  Keeping them safe, ensuring that they are nurtured and loved, and providing age-appropriate stimulus that develops and strengthens their brain, is just what your baby needs to meet each and every milestone of their development.

Why it is necessary to Read to Your Child? Bright Start Academy O’Fallon

wordpess 8 julyYou hear it everywhere, “Read to your baby!” It seems like you’re hearing it from the moment you find out you’re expecting. You hear it all the time at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon, “Read to your child!” It’s on every parenting magazine, every preschool television show. Doctors and nurses, teachers and early childhood education experts, everyone seems to be pushing the idea that reading to your young child is essential. They say your child should be read to early and often. But is it really that important? Why read to your baby when the book is just something else to try to eat or rip out the pages? Even when they won’t sit still long enough for you to feel like you’re doing any good, the research proves that it really is that important for you to read to your child. Children who are read to early on in life tend to have better overall development. Not only is there an improvement in language development and fluency, but they tend to have better focus, concentration, healthier social relationships, and even tend to be more successful in school. When you realize all the benefits of reading to your young child, it’s no wonder that Bright Start Academy O’Fallon emphasizes reading every single day!

For parents and Bright Start Academy O’Fallon caregivers alike, it’s so exciting to hear your child say their first word! And then it only gets better as you hear them say new words, learn new concepts, and start making connections on their own. When you read to your child, you are actually teaching them all of these things! You are showing them how letters sound, and how they combine to make words, and how those words relate to things in their world. They are learning how books work; reading print from left to right and holding the book the correct way. When they have a favorite book, they ask to hear it over and over again! And the children at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon sure do have their favorites! We know it’s another lesson though, as through that repetition your child is learning to remember those concepts and starting to build on them. It’s just another way we can help your child learn!

Socially, your child learns so much when you read to them, and we know firsthand, at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon, how essential social development is. First and foremost, reading gives them that special time to connect with you. You are your child’s favorite person, and when you read to them, that security and relationship is solidified. It’s especially nice when your little one is on the move so much, to get that snugly one on one time back for a few minutes. But even outside of your own relationship with your child, books are a great way for them to learn about emotions, relationships, sharing, and helping others. Reading to your child will help them learn better communication skills that they can use to make and keep friendships. At Bright Start Academy O’Fallon, we enjoy talking about the emotions and challenges in the stories. By working together, we are creating a strong sense of community, while teaching them relationship skills that are necessary as they grow.

wordpess 8 july 1

And as your child grows, that special reading time doesn’t need to end! We keep reading aloud to our Bright Start Academy O’Fallon Pre-K and Kindergarten rooms because they are still developing skills they need in life! Focus, concentration, problem-solving, and logical thinking are just a few of the skills that can be nurtured when you read aloud to your child. Reading books that have more advanced concepts and challenges helps your child work them out, with your guidance, helping you talk through tough situations together. We read books that are slightly above their reading level at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon, to motivate them to hone their skills and push themselves to read even more! To know more about Bright Start Academy, contact us at 636-379-2600.

When you look at all of the benefits that reading aloud has for your child, it’s easy to see why Bright Start Academy O’Fallon and experts agree that that reading is essential! Learning speech and language, social and problem-solving skills, and learning to focus and concentrate are all skills that will help them as they prepare to enter kindergarten, and that’s just the start of what reading aloud can help your child learn! With all these skills to develop and all the fun and funny stories there are to read, it’s no wonder the caregivers at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon make it a point to read to your child every day! Keeping them interested and engaged while they are listening and learning is what we look forward to each and every day!

Learning at The kids Level at Bright Start Academy

The years before kindergarten go so fast! At Bright Start Academy O’Fallon, we can almost watch them grow from day to day! From sweet little babies to rambunctious toddlers, to little boys and girls heading out the door with their backpacks on ready to move onto kindergarten, it all goes by at what seems like the speed of light. Blink and they’re already bigger! Each age and stage does go so quickly and there’s still so much for them learn that will help them move onto the next stage.  That’s why at Bright Start O’Fallon, we use an age-appropriate, engaging and interactive curriculum in each of our rooms, providing the children in our care with exactly what they need to know while meeting them on their level to prepare them for the next step.

When you look at your baby, you may wonder why Bright Start Academy O’Fallon has a curriculum for them at all! After all, babies are happy spending their days playing peek-a-boo, sucking on their fingers, and taking naps!  But when you think about all of the changes they go through in their first year, you realize that a baby’s brain never stops working. They spend their days absorbing their environment and learning all about what’s around them! Using all of their senses, they are constantly thinking, learning, and even problem-solving their world!  So, while the curriculum for our babies doesn’t look quite like the Pre-K room, we still make sure to keep your baby learning with stimulating things to look at, different textures to touch, and fun activities to try. And because Bright Start Academy O’Fallon helps them develop both their mind and muscles, we know that a quieter, more soothing environment is what they crave. Babies are learning just by having their needs taken care of, and by ensuring that they feel safe and loved. That sense of security is a huge learning milestone all by itself! It’s the first building block to learning how to build positive and trusting relationships with others!

We see first hand at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon, just how quickly those babies grow into independent, busy toddlers, exploring anything and everything they can get their hands on! They are constantly zooming around like they just can’t hold still; running and climbing every chance they get. They’ve found their words and want to tell you all about everything! And when they’re not telling you what they think, what they see, or how they feel, they’re constantly asking questions! They like to explore their world hands-on by touching, feeling and doing, and they need safe boundaries to explore in. At Bright Start Academy O’Fallon, we make learning interactive and fun, while keeping them safe and secure. Whether it’s making play dough or playing dress up, coloring, gluing, or finger painting, or even singing songs, jumping or climbing, we hold their attention and teach them to focus.  With all this and introducing beginning concepts like shapes and colors, we make sure they are getting a great foundation to build their learning on. And all this learning and playing means when it’s nap time, they are more than ready to rest!

Our preschoolers at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon have calmed down a little and are ready to learn, and show off their newly acquired skills. They are starting to grasp beginning reading and math concepts, and they are building on them every single day! Learning letters, numbers and shapes soon turns into writing letters and learning their sounds, writing numbers as well as counting. Using a wide variety of manipulative, block play, sensory exploration, and pretend play, helps develop a great academic foundation, while still encouraging creativity and having fun. On top of that, these activities are teaching them the social skills that they need to move onto their next stage of education. Skills like getting along with others, following a routine, waiting in line, and listening and following directions are essential to a smooth transition into school so that’s a big area of focus in the Bright Start Academy O’Fallon curriculum. We make sure our preschoolers are on the path to success! To enroll your child in day care center contact us at Bright Start Academy.

Our pre-kindergarteners and kindergarteners are getting ready for their next big adventure, and we want them to be prepared!  That’s why Bright Start Academy O’Fallon has consulted with the surrounding school district to structure our curriculum around what is required for them to know for kindergarten entry. Our children graduate our program with letter writing, sound recognition, name recognition, reading sight words, writing, listening to and following directions. Our kids learn to counting to 100, identifying numbers 0-30, sorting, measuring, coin recognition, and even graphing! Art, music, science, and outdoor play enhance the curriculum at Bright Start Academy O’Fallon and keep the environment fun and stimulating, as well. By following a structured routine, with time to learn and time to play, children are getting preparing them for what their day will be like in kindergarten. And for those children who attend half day kindergarten, they get the benefits of a full day of learning, as we supplement their program with more skills and lots of fun!

Bright Start Academy O’Fallon isn’t just a safe place for your child to play; we have created a safe place for your child to have fun learning and growing! While singing songs, playing pretend and squishing play dough, they are learning the social and developmental skills they need to thrive right now, and in the future. With a curriculum specific to each age and stage of your child’s life, Bright Start Academy O’Fallon is the place where your child will make friends, make leaps, and make memories!

How Throwing and Catching a Ball with your Preschoolers Helps?

Image

We live and work right in the heart of Cardinal Nation, so it’s hard not to get caught up in the enthusiasm that Opening Day brings. Getting our own little ones involved is just the next step! It’s hard to get a preschooler to sit through a game, and it’s even harder to watch the game with a preschooler asking questions the entire time. Despite all that, there’s no doubt that the combination of Baseball Heaven and sunshine gets parents thinking about throwing and catching with their preschooler. Why not start now? Throwing and catching with your preschooler can be a lot of fun, as well as great parent/child bonding time together, but making sure your expectations are age-appropriate can help you have more fun, and feel less frustration when the experience doesn’t look like you’d imagined.

Even when they’re very young, little ones seem to throw things constantly. Sitting in their high chair, riding in their stroller, or even while they’re up in your arms, they are always throwing things on the ground…seemingly just to watch you pick them back up! Which is exactly what they’re doing? Although children have learned the motor skills to throw something down on the ground, they are doing it more so to watch the cause and effect, rather than actually honing their throwing skills. Throwing things off the high chair or stroller takes little eye-hand coordination and aim, two skills that are essential for a beginning game of catch. Many people think of going to a infant care or child day care service, it is available for O’Fallon residents as they can send their child to best child day care center, Bright Start Academy.

Image

Children under the age of two are typically unable to throw a ball overhand, much less with any control. Games that involve rolling a ball back and forth are more appropriate during this time period. Between the ages of 18 months and 2 years i.e., Toddlers, children might enjoy practicing throwing a larger, soft ball into a basket. This activity gives them practice strengthening their eye-hand coordination and larger muscle groups, without making your head the target! Cheer your child on when they make a “basket”, encouraging them to keep working on their skills! Once they hit age three, most children are able to throw a ball overhand with some control, giving you the opportunity to open the door for a game of catch.

The catch part is the tricky part though! Once children learn to throw with some accuracy, it’s easy to think that they’ll be ready to toss the ball back and forth. And they might be…if it’s a large ball! The bigger the ball, the easier it is for them to master catching it. As they practice this skill over and over again you can introduce a smaller ball, eventually getting them to a standard baseball. The greatest key to success any time you’re teaching your child a new skill is allowing them to master it. It feels good to be successful, and little successes build confidence for children to try new things. Setting your child up for success by taking things slow and introducing new stages only when they’ve mastered the skills they need will help them push their limits so that they can get better and better at it! Before you know it, you’ll be the one having a hard time catching their throws! Bright Start Academy helps your child in getting this accuracy of catching things by letting them play with their own and their friends so that they can enhance their vision while having fun.

Image

It’s easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of baseball in a town like ours. Having children who are alongside of you, getting caught up in the enthusiasm makes it even better! Throwing and catching with your preschooler can be a fun and exciting springtime activity that brings the excitement of the big time sports right into your yard. Remembering to take it slow, keep expectations age-appropriate, and set your child up to feeling confident and strong will help you make memories that will last a lifetime. Bright Start Academy organizes some fun activities for their kids to let them enjoy their playing. After all, it’s one way to bring a little Baseball Heaven right into your own backyard!
